We're using acetate this week which has many uses. You can have a complete acetate card, an over layer, a window card, a shaker card, you can dry emboss it (Cuttlebug etc) & you can stamp onto it as I have for my design this week. Of course if you do stamp you would have to use the dreaded Stazon -never my inkpad of choice!! I've used Francoise new "Curly Butterfly" which when stamped onto acetate, coloured with Sakura pens & cut out looks pretty good. I waited until the Gelly Roll glaze was about to be dry as I didn't want the crystal glitter to block the transparency of the acetate too much. I also gently bent the wings of the butterfly upwards to give it life & added some black Stickles to the body ( this needed to dry over night)
Now for the card blank itself I cut an A4 horizontally, sliced a piece off the right hand side before scoring & re assembling. I just love the "Happiness Is" verse & the little butterfly stamps which come with it which I have stamped with Aurora.
There are some nice sentiments which come with the Curly Butterfly to which I have used on the left side of the card at the top & bottom . The finishing touches come in the form of some pretty paper tape, some soft sponging around the edges of the card blank & some large s/a gems from the "Clusters" pack by Mark Richards. Go on get your acetate out of that drawer!!

Spring has sprung this week & a great opportunity to use not only the new Woodware Multi Flowers punch but our old friend the Forest Friends Jumbo cling set from Stampendous which I used at Christmas. As you can see it's perfectly versatile & can be used for any season of the year. I've coloured the fawn & the rabbits with pencils & mounted the fawn behind a die cut frame with the rabbits on top. The flowers have all been punched from white linen paper & then sponged with chalk inkpads. They have then been gently sculpted & the leaves given some vein character. I've used the Liquid Pearls  & Stickles for the centres of the flowers. The card blank itself I have stamped all over using Botanical Blooms. Now just add the peel off greeting to finish. That's 2 weeks running now that I've done a "cute" design not me at all- I'm off to rehab!! Bye for now!

Printing with the Creative Palette

I've been playing with the new Creative Palette from Stampendous which is a mono printing system. It can be used with a variety of mediums but I have been using acrylic paints, a brayer, Stampendous Jumbo stamps & bubble wrap. The possibilities are endless to create your own piece of unique art, scrapbook page or background papers for your card designs. Large stamps like the Jumbos work well and anything with texture like lace, hessian, leaves etc. With the design above I have printed with acrylics spread onto the Palette with the brayer. I then quickly applied bubble wrap (to remove some of the paint) & then printed into the paint with the Jumbo Peony & flourish. Then lay a piece of card over the Palette, press evenly & you have your print. I have then printed over the printed piece when thoroughly dry with Brilliance black & painted with acrylics.

Sketch challenge  time is upon us again & I'm using a Happy Hopper from the House Mouse stable. It's quite a simple sketch & I wanted to create a bright  & sunny design with a country feel to it. As you will see from the sketch the background panel is divided diagonally & I have stamped with a slightly darker ink using the Grasses stamp by Jane Gill. Our Happy Hopper is stamped in black & coloured with pencils. I have stamped the image again on the background so that the tail of the kite flies off the page. Now just add some Candis & Candy Bonbons to finish the design.

Time to play along with the ladies from craftycardmakers this week & their chosen theme is "Winter" using Mixed Media (a variety of techniques). OK so I got a bit carried away (Dorothy!) when given carte blanche which is what Mixed Media allows you anything goes.
So.... I decided to use an artists canvas which I have worked with before (pop over to my other blog & take a look at my Memory Canvases) &  create my own little piece of art. I'll talk you through what I did in stages:_
1. The canvas itself I printed using acrylic paints in white & blue using some bubble wrap. I then gave it the Frantage treatment with embossing powders, Shaved Ice, mica flakes & Glass glitter. Check out the new "Creative Palette" from Stampendous for mono printing & there is a great demo on Youtube by Fran Seiford.
2. The snowflakes I embossed using a mixture of the Frantage embossing powders.
3.For the stamped image I used Hairy Manilla card & Versafine, I added a little colour with some pencils & sprinkled a little Chunky white powder (heating from beneath the card) for a real snowy look.
4. If you look closely you will see some frosted leaves around the edged of the stamped piece. I die cut these from clear shrink plastic & shrunk them in my melt pot with some clear Utee. I allowed them to curl & twist & I added some Stardust Stickles.
5. Finally it was time to put it all together, add some more Frantage, the dots from the Chippies & some more Stickles.
Here's a closer look at some areas of the canvas.
