Hearts & Flowers

Thursday was demo day as usual at Japonica & my turn in the spotlight again. Our theme this week was Vintage Hearts following on the heels of a recent blog week. In case you couldn't make it on Thursday here's a look at what my fevered imagination came up with.

For this design I used the Ornate Heart stamp & the embossing was done with Aged Teal both products from Stampendous.

Next  I used an embossing folder & simply sponged with colours from Misty Meadow (Colorbox Queue set) & added a little "Frantage" technique in the shape of Aged Teal, Aged Ivory & Detail Copper embossing powders. The wording comes from "Paisley Spring" stamp set. Again all products except the embossing folder from Stampendous.

This is my favourite of the day. I started by sponging a 6" x 6" card blank with pinks & mauves from Misty Meadow & Rose petals (both Colorbox Queues). I then stamped over this with Magenta's "Foliage Swirl" using one of the darker colours from the Misty Meadow set. The swirl & hearts are Chippies & I covered the shapes completely with a Versamark pad before randomly embossing with Aged Wine, Aged Ivory & Detail Copper. The Happy Anniversary (from Stampendous) was embossed with Detail Copper.

Finally we have a second outing for this gorgeous embossing folder & I've just used some silver mirror card to compliment it this time. The hearts come from "Paisley Spring" & have been embossed with Detail Silver, cut out & highlighted with Sakura Silver Metallic & Stardust pens. To finish just layer onto some matching card & add  a peel off greeting.

I had such fun making this card even thought the theme had me scratching my head to start with. We meet the cheeky Changito again this time with a sentiment that just fits nicely. I have made an eisel card from a 6" x 6" card blank & I've embossed white bubbles all over before sponging using the pretty pinks from the Rose Petals set.Stamp Changito & the sentiment using Versafine & colour with Sakura pencils & I have added some additional bubbles using the Mark Richards elements which are ideal. Both these pieces have been layered onto a darker pink card. Stamp a few extra bubbles & cut out before mounting onto some spirals of craft wire with glue dots. Insert a bunch of bubbles of varying lengths behind the sentiment & add some Stickles for added sparkle.

Father Christmas was kind enough to bring me a brayer this year so I've had a great afternoon playing with it! It's not something I've ventured into too much before but you can achieve some great results useful for all kinds of background effects. I used some glossy card & a Kaleidacolor pad. This is a dye inkpad which has 6 pads within which you can use together or you can separate them. You get some  really varied results using a dye inkpad on glossy card & a lovely rainbow effect. I stamped onto the background which I had created using Leaf Sprig & the Stazon pad- nothing else will do on glossy unless you want to emboss with clear powder. I cut away a strip around 1" wide from the right hand edge of the card blank & applied 2 brayered & stamped strips which had been edged with the Teal Blue pad to the edges. The sentiment was stamped with Versafine Blue Lagoon & is another message from the Stampedous Perfectly Clear "Thoughtful Wishes" set which I have featured in previous weeks- still plenty more to come yet! Now all that's left to do is to layer the main pieces onto some teal card before mounting onto the card & add the Card Candi. A bit different don't you think?!

Pop into Japonica to see the real thing!

Candi Flowers & Pretty Birds

Thursday is demo day at Japonica Exmouth & my turn to surprise & delight! I've been using some of the lovely Stampendous bird stamps & I also came up with a few more flowers which can be made using Candis. Below you can see the Jumbo Songbird  set which has one of my favourite sentiments. I have embossed with Detail Copper powder & sponged with Colourbox Queue set "Pumpkin Patch". The flowers were made from "Tiger" Candis & the foliage come from a bellflower punch. The background paper is from Magenta stamped using Versafine Vintage Sepia.

This cute little quartet I used on a blog project a few weeks ago & I have framed the image using single Candis which I have simply rolled in the centre on a molding mat & a ball tool (sort of squished them!) Just add some punched leaves, I used the Ash Leaf punch by Leonie Em & I have added  a dot of Liquid Pearls in the centre of each flower. The sentiment come from Thoughtful Wishes from Stampendous.

If you would like more details regarding making flowers with Candis drop into Japonica.

Here we are with the first sketch challenge of 2013 & I really like this one. I'm using one of the new spring stamps from Stampendous as I'm hankering after spring flowers already, aren't you? I've stamped  both the pansies & the sentiment (from the lovely Thoughtful wishes set) using Versafine & embossed with clear powder. I have water coloured the image using the ink from the Brilliance pads as they give you such a lovely pearly effect.Just splodge some ink onto an acrylic block & use a water colour brush, so therapeutic!! For the sketch I have taken 2 x 7.5" squares of card in green & lavender & cut them in half diagonally. Then simply stamp the pansy with the corresponding inkpads & put the 2 halves back together. Finish by layering the main image onto some darker purple card, add the ribbon & the elements.

Here's the original sketch why not play along!
As always my design is on display at Japonica if you want to take a closer look!

Happy New Year! With Christmas far behind us now it's time to get on with some new designs & crafting. Our theme this week is Vintage Hearts with wedding season looming & Valentine's Day just around the corner as the next date on the crafting calender. I have used some Chippies hearts this week & I have just coated each with some Boss Gloss & randomly embossed with a mixture of the Aged powders. While the powders are still molten I have stamped an impression into each heart using the Silhouette Sprig stamp. The card blank has been sponged with a lavender inkpad & I have used the same pad to stamp all over with the Silhouette Sprig stamp. I have stamped 3 squares of ivory linen card with the same inkpad & stamp & used the powders to frame each square before mounting the hearts.
