We're joining the ladies at crafty cardmakers for their monthly challenge & their theme is "For a Special Lady". I've done what they call a "Squash" card which is really easy to do & I've included a link to youtube so that you can watch a tutorial about the basic construction.
All you need to start is 3 x 6" x 6" squares of good quality paper. Now it's as easy as folding each piece into quarters & then once diagonally. Place the pieces so that they sit diamond-wise side by side & then attach them by overlapping & gluing the 2 centre squares. Starting at the left hand side fold the squares inwards & then outwards & then inwards again. Pop over to youtube to see the tutorial.

To decorate the card I've used "Herbs"  & stamped the various designs with soft chalk inkpads in shades of purple & greens. I've sponged over the entire area with the purple ink too. I just love the sentiments which come from Francoise Read's "You Are" & for a special Mum, aunt or friend it says it all. The covers of the card are made from a 3.5" square  of green card & the sentiment is layered onto a 3" square of purple card- don't forget to put the ribbon in place before attaching the sentiment. To finish I've just added a little sparkle with the Elements.

Why not pop over to the crafty cardmakers & see what they've come up with & maybe play along.

Mother's Day Greetings with Stix2

Today I have some Mother's Day designs for you using a combination of great Stix2 products & Woodware stamps.
Here we have Woodware's JGS448 Bubble Bloom - Melanie & all the sentiments come from JWS021 Happy Mothers Day. I've stamped the sentiment onto a Stix2 oval die cut which has been mounted onto a scalloped oval die cut. The buttons have been attached to the design using the Stix2 Hot melt glue gun. The card blank is a Stix2 6 x 6 & the background paper is from a Perfect Prints pad from Woodware

Here we have the "double glitter" technique using Stix2 die cut stencil sheet & ds tape sheet. I've used iridescent glitter & pink glitter from the pink Seed, Bead & Fine Glitter set. I've used a 5x7 Stix2 white card blank & the background layer is a piece of pink Stardust card punched with a Woodware border punch.

Lastly I've used Woodware's JGS446 "Whimsical Flower" I've coloured with Sakura Koi waterbrush pens & covered the whole image with hot glue to give a glassy effect. The card blank is made from Stix2's lovely new lemon gingham card.

Gosh this year  is rattling by already & time to think about Easter greetings. I have to say this is one of my favourite times of the year so I love to create bright Spring designs. Here I've used one of the new stamps from Jane Gill "Whimsical Flower" & I've given in to one of my favourite techniques too - paper piecing. The Perfect Prints pads are just, well, perfect for this as the designs are small & there is a wealth of colours to chose from. For anyone not familiar with this technique you simply print the image several times onto your chosen papers & cut out parts of it accordingly. Now print the image onto the base card or paper & attach the cut pieces onto it. I've layered the image onto lemon & purple card & added the ribbon before attaching to the base card. To finish I've added the sentiment & some butterflies which have been punched from some lilac vellum & given a touch of Stickles for sparkle.

We're looking at "resist" techniques this week & I've a single twisted easel design for you using one of Woodware's new season's stamps by Jane Gill "Dotty Flowers". The design part of the card i.e the resist bit I've done with the silver embossing & then lightly sponged over the top with chalk  inkpads. When the ink is dry you just gently wipe the embossing with a dry cloth because it has resisted the ink. The bottom layer is a different resist technique. This is done by stamping with Versamark (this is a watermark inkpad) & then dusting over the design with powders, in this case the Metallic FX powders. The colour will cling to the stickiness of the Versamark pad but you can dust away the excess. The easel design is quite simple, just take a 6x6 card blank & fold the left hand side from the top right corner to the bottom left corner (inwards). All you need is a "stop" bar across the centre diagonally - the design sits on the triangle you have created. The design has been layered onto silver mirror card & I've added a few dots of silver Stickles just to highlight the flowers. To finish add the Elements, the paper flowers & the buttons.

Hi everyone here we are in February already but I'm always glad when January is behind us. Our theme this week is "Just One Layer" which is trickier that you may think when we tend to rely on all our layers to enhance the main image sometimes. So, I've taken a DL card blank & stamped the lovely "Wire Roses" at the centre. Now simply colour with the Sakura pens & cut around the outline. I've covered the inside of the card with the black dotty paper to provide a contrast. To finish stamp the sentiment which comes form the set, add the ribbon,"Elements" & a few spots of Glossy Accents to the leaves. Quite effective I think! Below is another card which evolved when I was experimenting so I thought I'd finish it off & give you a bonus design this week.
