Time for this month's sketch challenge & it seems that I'm in flower making mode again! This time I've used Card Candis which make a variety of great flowers as well as being an embellishment.
1. Punch a  1" circle from card & add a generous dollop of silicone glue.
2.Take 2 Candis & roll each around a cocktail stick to form a tube. Place them in the centre of the glue pointing upwards.
3. Hold a Candi in one hand & then hold the edge using curved tweezers with the other & twist.
4.Place these under the centre ones to form the first layer of petals. Carry on building up the layers until you're happy with the result.
Simples!! The beauty of this is that using the silicone gives you scope to fiddle with the petals until you're happy with it.  The squares have punched from the Textura cardstock & for the messages I've used the new "Little Messages" from Francoise Read. The "One in a Million" comes from "Always Remember" & the background butterflies from "Happiness Is". To finish add some brown spotty organza ribbon.

Do you have a favourite tool? Something you reach for time & again? If I'm honest the thing that I'd be lost without is a scruffy old craft knife long past it's cutting days but it's so useful for poking, peeling, scraping, piercing etc. etc. I do love my punches though & they do add another dimension  to stamped projects or even a design of their own.
The first time I made these punched chrysanthemums was in a workshop with our own Jane & she scared me to death she seemed so stern but we all know she's a pussy cat! Don't look too closely Jane they're not as good as yours now!
The flowers are made by punching 10 pieces from the Multi Ray Sun punch & giving them cup character with a shaper. You then layer them inside each other to form the chrysant shape.
I've covered a 6" x 6" card blank with some of the lovely paper from the Perfect Prints pad. The "vase" is made from punching half a circle with both the circle punches. I've used the Dreamweaver stencil & Pearl Beige to add a little decoration to the vase, also I've sculpted it a little to add some shape. Now punch the leaves from some scraps of scrapbook papers before arranging the flowers & leaves in  the vase.
I've used the daisy corner punch to make a border- just remove the guard & it becomes a border punch. The greeting comes from the new season's stamps from Francoise Read "Little Messages" which will prove to be very useful.
I'll be having another look at punches in a few weeks so watch this space.

Here's my design for today

Dry embossing using the "Strie" method today. I've used the stencil LG 746 Star Dream Christmas Tree for this effect & highlighted the finished design using some Stardust Stickles.  Give the card you have chosen to use a spritz with some surgical spirit to acheive a deeper, crisper embossed finish. Always remember to have your stencil  on the "A" base plate of you embossing machine as far away from the rollers as possible with card, mat & "B" plate on top avoid bending your stencil.
After embossing, stroke some ink from our chosen pad  (I've used Brilliance pearlescent Sky Blue) coming from each side of the card in turn- this is a sweeping motion. Now layer onto some teal card & mount onto a 6" x 6" card blank. I never learn not to use mirror card when I have to photo my designs for the blog as I usually get a reflection of myself ! To finish add some Woodware turquoise polka dot organza ribbon & the peel off words come from 91158 Francoise Seasonal Words.

Here's my design for today

Today we have the faux cross stitch effect. I've dry embossed the stencil first using my Cuttlebug. Remember to spritz the card with some surgical spirit for for a crisper, deeper effect.  Now replace the stencil & the one I've used is LL589 Musical Christmas & add some colour. I've used a selection of Brilliance pearlescent pads. When you're happy with your design place the Dreamweaver cross stitch screen over the top & gradually add some darker  over the entire area until you're satisfied with the effect. I've mounted onto dark green card  & mounted onto a 8cm x 15 cm red folded card. I've added some Christmas green gingham ribbon, Icing Sugar Candis & the words are from peel off 92730 MC & HNY.

Here's my first contribution to Blog hop week

Here we have the "double glitter technique" which is a lot of fun & produces some great results. I've used LX7016 Season of Joy. Cut a piece of card & a piece of double sized adhesive sheet to approximately the same size as the stencil. Peel off one side of the sheet & attach to the card. Use a natural soap to rub over the back of the stencil km in -this makes it easier to remove from the sticky sheet. Peel off the other side from the sheet & place the stencil over the top. Add ultra fine gold glitter & shake off excess. Carefully remove the stencil & cover the remaining sticky surface with Crystal glitter. Replace the clean stencil & add some colour using inkpads & a 1/8" stencil brush.Trim & layer onto dark blue card & attach to a 5" x 7" card blank. I've added some punched gold holly leaves using Woodware's 1" holly punch & some 5mm Glitterdomes.

Woodware Retailer Challenge- A Midsummer's Day

Materials used:-
FRS254 Curly Leaves
JGCL575 Delightful Verse
Stampendous Detail Gold embossing powder
Brilliance Pearlescent Jade, Thyme & Lime
Memento Pear Tart
Stickles Gold & Lime
Wobbler
6 x 6 white linen card blank
All available from:-

This week our retailer theme has been chosen for us by Teresa of Philpotts they are an online store with a lovely website and blog which is peppered with inspiration you can find them at Philpotts.com and don’t forget to visit there blog PhilpottsBlog you can also find them on Facebook.

It's time for a challenge from one of the Woodware Retailers this week & the theme is "A Midsummer's Day". To me the summer is at it's peak when all the flowers are in full bloom & the leaves are shimmering on the trees- but I guess that's the gardener in me coming out again!

I've chosen summer leaves as my theme  using the Curly Leaves set from Francoise Read. I've embossed the leaves using Detail gold powder onto a piece of card & painted with the 3 brilliance inkpads to give a gorgeous shimmery effect. Now cut them out & set aside while you prepare the card blank. I've folded this gatefold style & I've stamped the acorns & sentiment using Pear Tart. I've sponged around the edges using Brilliance Thyme. Attach the 2 smaller cut out leaves with 3D foam pads & the larger one I have attached using a "Wobbler" which gives great movement. To finish I've stamped the sentiment  from Delightful Verses inside the card & added some tiny dots of Stickles on the leaves & the card blank itself.

Masking

Materials used :-
Georgina JGS186
Magenta K0416 Fern
JGS901Birthday Textbox
Brilliance Onyx Black
Sakura Gelly roll glaze pens
Shocking pink polka dot ribbon
Berry narrow organza ribbon
2" label punch
A5 black card blank
All available from :-

We're doing great things with masking this week which is an easy technique that can produce some impressive results. Many stamp sets come with a mask included where appropriate (Stampendous) but it's easy to produce your own too. Just stamp the image onto a piece of card & cut out. Choose which image is to be your focal point & stamp. Now use the mask to protect this image while you stamp around it. The other images will appear behind it now. I've used Sakura pens to colour the flowers & I've let the colours bleed into each other while still wet. The foliage comes from a Magenta stamp & I've overlapped the printing here & the different Sakura colours over each other produce some different results. I've printed the Birthday Textbox onto a piece of card & then punched a label. To finish add the ribbon & tie the label to it, attach to the card blank.
